Meet the Journalist who Crashed the €387,000 Lamborghini Aventador

Unless you are from Austria or Germany, there's a good chance you may not have heard of Thomas Glavinic before; he is a writer that also happens to collaborate with Autorevue, an Austrian car magazine.

But that's about the change because Mr. Glavinic had the unfortunate fate of being the first person to go on record for crashing Lamborghini's astonishing Aventador LP 700-4.

Carscoop regulars will undoubtedly remember our report on the incident a few weeks ago, though at the time we didn’t have many details on the crash other than it occurred in Italy on August 30.

Today, however, the crew over at Autoreview decided it was time to confess their doings and reveal that the man behind the steering wheel was one of their own, Thomas Glavinic.

Lamborghini Owner Wanted to Warm up his Car in Malaysia: Yep, That Ought to do it…

The owner of a relatively new Lamborghini Gallardo in Malaysia wanted to "warm up" his topless supercar but got much more than what he bargain for when the Italian vehicle burst into flames along Jalan Beringin in Bukit Damansara on Friday.

"I was driving up a slope when I noticed smoke coming out of the engine," told the local media the owner of the car, who preferred to stay anonymous. "I had the car for three years and it was heartbreaking to see it go up in flames," he added.

Video: Oops…Crane Tries to Lift Another Crane with Disastrous Results

With big machines, come big risks. Yeah right, try telling that to your boss if you're a crane operator that accidentally dropped another huge crane down into what looks like a ditch (or a cliff, we're not sure). Watch the video after the break.

Chuck Norris Approved: Motorcyclist Cheats Death, Walks Away

We don't know if it was beginners luck, a fluke, or for those that believe in the divine, a case of the Grim Reaper turning a blind eye, but fact is the rider of this motorcycle not only cheated death more times than once in this incident, but he actually walked away from the scene without a single scratch!

Youtube user Christocrous69, who uploaded the footage on behalf of a friend, says that the motorcyclist involved in the accident was a newbie having only driven for two months.

Video: In Russia, Demonstrating Against Illegally Parked Cars May get you Killed…

Organized activism is never easy, even more so if you have to deal with gun-carrying civilians. In the video you're about to watch, a Russian activist group called "Стоп-хам" (Stop-Xam) decided to take action against illegally parked cars on Petrovka street in Moscow (if our translation is correct, that is), by placing large stickers on the vehicles' windshields.

An owner, or perhaps simply a driver of one of those cars - a silver-colored Toyota Camry, objected to the activists' move and sure enough, a brawl erupted. The young driver of the Camry punched one of the activists and when the rest came to his help, he pulled out a gun.

Jackasses on Wheels and with Guns Terrorize Middle East Drivers [Video]

There's hooning. And then there's criminal hooning. These particular individuals shown in the video after the break no doubt belong to the second category with their idiotically dangerous antics.

Filmed somewhere in the Middle East (possibly in Saudi Arabia if we are to believe the Youtube commentators), the 10-minute long clip primarily focuses on the "achievements" of the driver and passengers of a silver Honda Accord and to a lesser extent, the crew in a Toyota Camry.

As if waving guns and shooting in the air on a public road isn't dumb enough, the wannabe drifters terrorize all the rest of the drivers throwing the Accord in front of passenger cars, trucks and even near a school bus.

Chuck Norris Approved: Awesome Save, Even if it was Accidental

As with anything else in this life, sometimes you need a little luck to get through a potentially dangerous situation.

Now, unless Chuck Norris was behind the wheel of the red truck you see on your right hand, we'll assume that the driver didn't intentionally tilt the vehicle on one side to maneuver himself out of harm's way.

Watch the clip right after the jump.

The Flying Dutchman: Nissan GT-R Lands into a Water Ditch

There's something about sports cars and…water sports this week. Following the story on the Ferrari Enzo that took a quick dip into the Atlantic Ocean a couple of days ago, we now have a Nissan GT-R that was flogged into a water ditch in Amsterdam, Holland.

According to press reports from The Netherlands, the driver of the Nissan GT-R was returning from a close-by race track event when he lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons, sending it straight into the swamp-like ditch.

A messy situation indeed, but fortunately, nobody was injured. Hop over the break to wash...err..watch the aftermath in the two video clips.

Video: Watch a Ferrari Enzo Modded Take a Dip into the Atlantic Ocean

Between 2002 and 2004, Ferrari built a limited run of approximately 400 Enzo supercars. Understandably, being such an extremely rare car, when an Enzo bites the dust, or rather in this case, the sea, the news makes headlines.

This particular accident involved a 2003 Ferrari Enzo tuned by Edo Competition that was driven by Calgary car dealer Zahir Rana at the Targa Newfoundland Rally in Canada.

At some point during the race, Rana lost control of the Italian supercar after hitting a hard bump on the gravel sending it straight into the ocean…

Video: One Lucky Son of a Gun…

It's hard to realize that a single moment, just a split second in time, can change or even worse, terminate your life. One of these rare moments almost occurred to the passengers of a car in Russia that was equipped with a dashboard-mounted camera that caught the entire act on film.

While driving on a two-lane highway that was gradually merging into one lane, a large rig on the left hand side of the road and a passenger car on the right hand side, were caught in a life-threatening situation.

Video: Caution, Dangerously Slippery When Wet…

Two separate, but equally frightening accidents that involved two large trucks and which took place on a highway in China's Hebei Province, were captured on a surveillance camera.

The footage shows the first lorry driver losing control of the vehicle and sliding left and right, followed shortly after by a second truck, this time a tanker that smashed into the median before coming to a halt.

Video: The Best of the Amsterdam Rallysprint 2011

We love ourselves some rally eye candy even if it's from the one of the lesser known events that take place in Europe, the Amsterdam Rallysprint 2011.

The following video comes courtesy of Rallymedia and it includes a selection of scenes with plenty of different cars most prominent of which are the E30 BMW 3-Series saloons. Head over the jump to watch the six-minute long clip.

Motorcycle Wheelie Goes Terribly Wrong – or Why You Should Always Keep a Distance from Amateur Stunts…

Random stunt displays may capture people's interest but there is a very good reason why organizers at professional events keep the crowd back at a safe distance from the performer(s).

The video you're about to watch shows a motorcyclists attempting a wheelie in what is said to be a Suzuki GSX-R when he suddenly loses control and ends up smashing the bike in the face of two by standers…

Video: Policeman Attempts to Hit Moving Motorcyclists

We know for a fact that motorcyclists face many dangers on the road and are far more exposed to risks than people driving cars and trucks. Nevertheless, we didn't think that a police officer could pose a threat to the well-being of a biker…
If you watch the following video carefully, you'll see a NYPD Chevrolet Impala squad car pulling up in the middle of the road in an attempt to stop the oncoming motorcyclists, with the officer then jumping out and trying to hit the bikers with what looks like a police baton.
Needless to say, we don't know if something had occurred before this scene was shot to incite the officer to take such actions.
There are some other videos on the Youtuber's page showing a large group of motorcyclists fooling around on the highway, but again, we have no way of knowing if they're related in any way to the baton incident.

Watch a Reckless but Extremely Lucky Driver Pass through Pedestrians

In a harum-scarum moment that was caught on tape through the dashboard-mounted camera of a following vehicle, a thoughtless driver in a silver-colored sedan passes through two pedestrians that were crossing the road without even trying to stop (that is, if he was actually paying any attention to the road). Talk about threading a needle…

Follow the break to watch the short video clip for yourself.

Video: A Very Bizarre Incident

It’s a crazy, crazy world we live in. Don't believe us? Just take a look at this incident that took place somewhere in Asia, possibly in China if Google Translation did its work (visit the comment section to correct us if we're wrong).
While we can't be certain of the details surrounding this bizarre episode since the description on Youtube doesn’t make much sense after we translate it into English, through the dash-mounted camera we see someone who is driving a small green Toyota being chased by two men, one holding a baseball bat.
Two minutes into the video, we find that the man with the bat has jumped on the moving car and is trying to smash the window before it collides with the vehicle filming the scene... Watch it for yourself in the clip after the break.

It has Begun: First Lamborghini Aventador Crash

The first accident involving Lamborghini's newest flagship model, the Aventador LP 700-4 was recorded in Italy on August 30.

According to the writings of Italy's Motori.it, the driver of the Aventador attempted to pass a line of vehicles but was cut off by a truck that (legally) tried to turn left. The Lamborghini driver didn't have enough time or space to stop and collided with the truck ending his run on the ditch.

New Report Seeks to Answer the Question, “Why do Accidents Happen?”

If there are two questions that everyone from police to policy makers have asked over the last one hundred or so years of motoring, it’s these: “How do accidents happen?” and “How can we stop them from happening?”

With regards to the first, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) in the UK has analysed some 700,000 fatal road accidents that occurred over a four year period between 2005 and 2009.

Their so-called Licensed to Skill report aims to identify the leading causes of automotive accidents in the UK, the results of which may surprise you. License to Skill project manager Neil Greig explains:
